Fishing Report

Tellico River
The Tellico Delayed Harvest section continues to fish well, despite the high and clear water conditions that we have right now. The trout are lying deep, and to have any chance at catching them you must add some split shot and get your fly down. I would go as far as to say that if you forget to bring your split shot, you might as well turn around and go home. That is how important it is right now.
The trout are still taking the size 6 Olive Woolly Buggers and size 16 BHPT's. They have also added pink and yellow Y2K's to their list of preferred foods lately. All these flies will produce fish all day long if you dredge them deep under an indicator.
Water temp. is 48 degrees and crystal clear. As mentioned, it is running high right now, so be prepared to share the river with a few kayakers here and there. No big deal, just FYI.
We have been catching a few of the brookies lately, but they appear to be spread out pretty good. They are definitely a pleasant surprise to reel in on the Tellico.
Just about all trout streams that I know of in East TN are running high and fast right now. The fishing is still good, but remember, be careful out there. You may not be able to wade to that "favorite spot" that you found during the last couple of drought years that we have had. Keep this in mind and play it safe out there. Until next time, TIGHT LINES!
Steve
